Something I notice as a Philly maternity photographer more and more: I am not that cool. Like, stylish wise. Okay, also in seventy eight other ways, but especially in this way.
When mamas roll up to their maternity sessions not only made up and looking like they didn't get run over, I'm immediately regretful of my pregnancy style to begin with. But you guys. Some of these people are wearing HATS. And actual SHOES. And jewelry... Because look at her! Right? This is one cool mama.
She also was not at all rattled that it was literally raining the second we drove up. Windshield wiper using kind of raining. This shot was taken in between raindrops. It was one of my favorites from the session, and probably one of the first five clicks of the day. I love when that happens. But, I digress. I was showing you how cool she is!
Don't lie, y'all. You ain't this cool.
Also - she and her husband are so darling and SO much fun. Maybe some umbrellas got stolen, but still, we had a lot of laughs!
You know anyone who rolls up with dogs will steal my heart. Loved these two silly ladies. Both looking at me, too!? Well behaved pooches indeed.
Loved these late spring/early summer greens - everything about this day was gorgeous and perfect, after the rain stopped.
And with husband. <3
I realized when I got home that my stepladder got stolen too. Oh, well. It was broken - so, jokes on you, ladder stealers!
Can't WAIT to show you the photos of their gorgeous baby who came shortly after this session was completed. She is as darling as her parents!

I was just looking over my most recent Newborn photographer Philadelphia area blog posts. I realized that, although I blogged his parents' gorgeous maternity session here, I never actually shared his newborn photos! And, I'm sorry for that, to you, if you read my blog a lot, because omg. He is so darn cute and was so smiley. Plus, as sometimes/often happens, I fell even more in love with his peeps than I had been.
This is usually my first setup in the door when you come in for your session. Baby is typically happy to be snuggled up and wrapped up and cozy. But who knew that being snuggled up this way would elicit this!? This image wound up to be one of my favorites of 2016. I think of it among the images I am so proud to have taken this year. Mid-yawn, sweet fingers, all that hair, beautiful blue, all wrapped up, hoped for, wished for, darling boy. Love this so. We giggled and clapped when we found that I had captured it during the session.
The theme of this session was definitely "Smiles for Miles" with this little boy! (His name isn't miles - I just mean that he was smiling for days! Literally in every setup.) See?
More smiles, more adorable setups. Don't you love that hair he has?
Love him in this cute little fox setup!
And, here, more serious. That blue makes his beautiful hair pop!
Ah, another smile. <3 Joyful boy who is content in how loved he is.
Smiling again. This boy.
Now you see where it all comes from. Look at these gorgeous smiles. Look at the love you can feel absolutely radiating off of the screen. I love this photo too. I think it is one of my favorite parent/family shots from a newborn session I've taken this year.
I included this next shot because, even though it is similar (processed a little differently, too), you can see the radiating joy from both of Mr. Shiv's parents' faces. Just pure happiness, joy. This was them. The epitome of them - smiling, so happy to be together, so much love. I enjoyed working with them so much. What a beautiful family!
Thanks, sweet family, for choosing me to capture your before and after, your love of your family and of each other, your exciting start down the new path of parenthood. If you would like your new journey captured, click here to send me an email and start the conversation.
I am a newborn photographer, but sometimes what precedes that is being maternity photographer. I think that Philadelphia maternity photography is one of the most beautiful things I do! I love the diversity of looks that Philadelphia has to offer; she's like a little black dress. You can dress her up or dress her down. :P Okay, I'm just getting weird here.
So, here we are, in a gorgeous location, and at my favorite time of the day to take photographs outside: the Golden Hour. It's really like, the Golden 1.5 or more Hour/s for me, because I do like to take advantage of that strong, not yet setting sunlight, too. This was a magnificent day, both as weather and sunlight goes. I know many photographers who prefer an overcast day but not me! I love that strong sun, especially for backlighting, and for filtering through the leaves. This day was just perfect.
I have a lot of favorites to share from this session, because look at how that gorgeous sun is lighting up those gorgeous leaves!
That navy dress goes perfectly with those gorgeous yellows and oranges and reds, too!
A few feet away, a totally different look, same gorgeous people. :) Love that illuminated yellow off to the side, bringing in a gorgeous pop of color.
That bokeh though. :) Love their smiles here. Natural and gorgeous.
These shots are just a few feet apart, but look so different. I love them both!
Some of that gorgeous sun snuck in. See how it's illuminating the grass behind them? The sun does the prettiest things!
This is hands down my favorite photo spot in the city. A field plus the skyline. It just blows my mind every time! PS - Have I mentioned that sun yet???
I think I'm going to stop here. There are actually more - and believe it or not, this session took about 40 minutes. Mini maternity sessions are awesome. If you are in the market for Philadelphia maternity photography, you can click this link to contact me or email me at email@example.com.
There is nothing as beautiful as fall in Philadelphia. I love this city so much, and I absolutely love to see the beauty of the city in the fall, in the golden light. As a maternity photographer, it is, to me, one of the prettiest backdrops for a pregnant mama, if she is lucky enough to be having her maternity photographs done then.
I have had a few maternity photography sessions in the last few weeks, and each has been as lovely as the next. I'm so excited to share them with you. Because, to me, the thing that is as beautiful as this city, and this season, is a beautiful mama to be, awaiting the arrival of her little one.
And, because I'm me, I tend to also fall in love with the people. I love when they tell me their story, I am honored to be the person who captures it for them for all of time, and I love and cherish when someone shows me themselves or lets me in for a little while. I try to be gentle with that, to be honest with that, to show them the beauty that I see on this side of the camera. I love to see the look between spouses, the laugh with the head thrown back, the small smile as she spends a minute connecting with her baby.
Often, I get to meet those babies later, and that's such a treat too! To get to meet these people who just a few short weeks ago were expecting, wondering, hoping. Now, often just a few short weeks later, I meet them as parents. Their world has changed, their lives are forever changed, they have fallen completely in love with their baby, they have learned a lifetime's worth in a week already.
They didn't even mean to match. She changed her outfit at the last minute. They're just that good.
Love. Just loved the tenderness between these two.
Love this light.
See? I love these two. <3
Don't they just match perfectly with this gorgeous spot?
No, she's NOT a model. Isn't she beyond, though?
Her friend made her this little onesie. We had to shoot it before we left. Also, I <3 Philadelphia.
I'm meeting their new little one tomorrow! Can't wait! If you are expecting, and you would like to schedule either a maternity or a newborn session, (both?) click here to email me!
When trying to find a Philadelphia maternity photographer, have you ever noticed that they often want to shoot in the evening, never at noon? There's a reason for this, and it doesn't have to do with the fact that we often stay up editing our photos into the wee hours of the evening. Okay, that last part is actually true, but it still has nothing to do with that fact. That's why they make coffee. Duh. I usually drink coffee up until I actually get into bed - I'm impervious to caffeine at this point. But I digress. I do like to do the majority of my photo shoots in the evening, if I can, because the sun is low and the light is dreamy and golden and not overhead and you can do amazing things with it, things like lens flare and just generally bathing your subjects in beautiful light.
Like this. That dreamy light occurs at the time before sunset - see how low the sun is in the sky? That magic light is so, so perfect.
Also - I love how the simple black dress highlights her beautiful growing form. So classic and perfect in this scene.
Love this black and white. LOVE her hat. Love her genuine laugh.
I'm posting these two, even though they are similar, because I love them both and I feel like the lens flare makes them different.
Love the wide variety of looks we got here out of this location.
I feel like this looks like a painting.
A mama's gotta have her dog.
Are you noticing the Sia vibe here? Intentional. :D
I think this is my favorite of the day.
What love looks like. Or should.
