First, I have to tell you, you can't hate this gorgeous, skinny mama for looking this good while pregnant with her FOURTH child, because she is so nice, so laid back, and so funny that you seriously just won't be able to. I have had the privilege of shooting her and her family for a few years now, from when there were just two kids. I feel so lucky to have the best clients in Philadelphia.
So, we got a bunch of great shots with mama and her babies, but she was also really wanting a maternity silhouette photo. You know, the kind with a lot of sky in the background at or around sunset? I love those. She does too!
Unfortunately, the place we started out had no skyline at all, just trees. We tried a bunch of locations that were either locked, unusable, or otherwise not sky-ful. We were just kind of driving around, looking for a great spot, and losing light.
And then we came upon a construction site. Not a regular old construction site, but a huge one. Like, whole shopping mall sized. With trucks whose wheels were taller than my entire body. So, I motioned to her to pull in. There was no one there but one guy who was sort of cleaning up and heading back to his truck. We parked, and ran up on some huge piles of rocks. Oh, did I mention we ran? Like, across a football field? Yeah, recall that she's like, 32 weeks pregnant! She was a sport. Ten minutes later, we were done. And she had her silhouette. I was so happy to be able to do whatever it took to get her the photo she wanted. And, it's hanging huge in her son's bedroom.
Here is one of them, one of my favorites.
I love this one, too.
And another favorite. What is it with me and headless maternity shots?! I love them!
This big brother is the most excited dude I've ever met about getting a baby sister. From the minute he knew that she was in his mom's belly, he has been talking about her.
Just look at this great big squeeze he's got for her already!
Such a sweetheart - hope those gorgeous eyes run in the family!
This guy is nothing if not a complete adorable comedian. He loved pretending to do some maternity posing of his own. Needless to say, he had us all cracking up!
I love this beautiful location. So glad we got there in what was truly the "Golden Hour" because the light was lovely coming in this way. So much love.
And, the two cowpokes. Or something like that. Dad was teaching him about this and of course, they were both cracking up. So were Mom and I watching the scene go down.
I think this guy is going to be a great big brother! Can't wait to meet Little Sis when she arrives.
I love the look of urban photography - photos where you're in the city and it shows, whether it's for a maternity session or a family session.
So, I give you this. A couple in love, in front of a home they renovated to make their own, and where they are going to raise that little one when he or she arrives.
Here's just a little taste of a gorgeous maternity session I shot recently. It had been a sort of dreary day, but this fun and sweet couple was so much fun to work with!
They had so much love for each other - and so much excitement about meeting their little one, gender unknown!
Thanks for a great day, A and G!
I posted recently on my Facebook page about an inquiry I received a little while ago from a mom-to-be. I called it my favorite inquiry in recent memory, but the truth is, it might actually be my favorite session inquiry ever. Now, when she told me that she found me from "the great googler", she had me already. But then, I read on, and found this:
I will be a tattooed mom. Recently while at Disney a women approached
me and told me I should be ashamed of myself because I am pregnant and
tattooed (and unmarried - welcome to 2012, Lady). I never even thought
of the two as a juxtaposition but she took me by surprise - she was
disgusted. So in the spirit of the 'f you' I want my maternity
photos to capture my tattoos as well. I like your work and am
interested in some information. I do not
want something too traditional and I don't think I want to be naked
unless you can photo shop away cellulite and stretch marks :) I am
hoping to do the shoot closer to my due date and am shopping around
now. I am due june 1 and was hoping early May for the shoot. We live
in xxx and work in Philly. Thanks for your time and I look
forward to hearing from you.
You tell me you wouldn't fall in love with someone like that! So, I knew I needed to do this session. This is what I talk about when I talk about "finding my people" or my people finding me, rather.
And, do the session we did. Where else would we start but Tattooed Mom's on South Street?! You know we had to!
We moved on to capture some beautiful sunlight at a park, and I got to see the fun-loving and each-other-loving-ness of this couple. It was so sweet to witness how much they truly enjoy each other!
I was loving all of that beautiful light, too! And, let's just talk for a minute about how being pregnant totally suits this beautiful woman. She is positively glowing and beaming, isn't she?
Hey, a baby is totally cause for celebration!
J & A & baby Egg, you guys completely rule. I had so much fun with you.
I'm not sure which I love more, the location in these photos, the amazing outfits that Mom put together or this family. I mean, the first time I talked to the mom on the phone, I adored her. We talked clothes, we laughed, it was like chatting with a friend. I was excited to meet them and shoot their family of four as they anticipated the arrival of their third baby, a boy, on his way before you know it. We had to reschedule due to some minor illness and cruddy weather, but on the day of the session, bright and early, the weather was amazing, the location was tranquil, and the kids were troopers. The ground was wet and Baby Girl (Bear, as she is known) does not like to get her feet wet or grassy. But, the bribe candies kept her focused, and we were able to keep her happy. Big Brother was my helper, he kept me entertained and carried my chair for me. He was so darling! Dad was happy to keep the kids so that we could get some solo shots of Mom too; what a guy! What a sweet, sweet family the S Family is.
As for the photos, I do not think I could choose a favorite from this session. So lovely. If you are thinking of maternity or family photos, note how excellent it looks when the clothes are coordinated (not matchy matchy, just solidly complimentary). I love outdoor family photos!
So, without further ado - the photos!
Enjoy, S Family! Can't wait to meet your newest addition next week!
