Being a newborn photographer in Philadelphia brings me some of my favorite people! I seriously have the best clients ever - and I love when they add to their families and bring their new baby to me. First, because I am always super happy to see the family again, see how big the older sibling has gotten, and best of all, snuggle their new addition! It's so much fun to see how alike (or NOT alike!) the new baby and the older sibling are, to use the same (or COMPLETELY different) props, and get to hang out with them again is like seeing old friends.
I was SO happy to get an Instagram message from the mama letting me know she was expecting again. And when they came in with baby sister and big brother (his newborn session here), I was squeezy with joy. I tried not to actually squeeze anyone but mom and dad. :)
Obviously, a GIRL now! So exciting!
Brother has gotten SO BIG!
Managing a baby and a toddler.
The old hat:
Brother is still GORGEOUS.
Mom is still the sweetest, with the biggest heart and the most genuine smile ever.
Dad still cracks me up.
It was a treat to spend the day with them.
And, baby sister. Sweet and new.
I gasped out loud when I this came up on my computer screen!
Yes, this lady and her dad! <3
Oh, his little face. <3 I think we were all looking at each other like, "Can you believe what you are seeing right now?!"
Love her in this headband! <3
And yellow and flowers were made for her.
Baby bear. <3
Clenchy baby toes. Perfect pose. Pursed lips. Win!
S Family, you are the best. I hope that T can use this in his Dadagering. :)
Philadelphia custom newborn photography - what is that and what does it mean?
Well - it actually means a lot of things.
When I speak with you over the phone, I will ask you if you have any preferences. Often, people prefer to incorporate the colors of their nursery into a pose. Or have strong feelings one way or another about a particular pose.
I think baby Asher had strong feelings about being "potato sacked" - don't you? I think he kind of loved it!
Ahhh, such cuteness! I love this pose a lot. A baby in a bucket!
Sometimes, the requests come on the fly when something particularly inspiring is seen laying around my studio. I honestly never would have thought to use these marquee lights this way - and given that I'd actually had them for years and never used them at all, it was a good thing Asher's mom had a vision for them, because I absolutely love what she had in mind! It seems a little Philly to me too - sort of reminds me of our iconic LOVE statue, do you think?
Another way a session is custom: bring ya (well behaved) dog! These shots are usually a lot of work, but we make magic happen in my studio. Treats encouraged. For the photographer too.
One final way we customized Asher's session: Asher's dad was a catcher in college. They brought his mitt and a ball with them (we discuss any prop bringing beforehand and I always have clients text me photos of the props with their ideas to see if I can make it work. Also to make sure it's incorporated seamlessly into your session so it doesn't take away from getting all the poses you'd like when I have to totally make a new setup while baby snoozes!)
I absolutely LOVE how this shot came out, and I LOVE that it's something meaningful to his family.

This sweet family came to see me because I'm a Media newborn photographer. Newborn photography shoot days are my favorite days! My studio is all set up and ready to go - just add perfection. <3 Darling big brother Theo came in and was all business and all ready to go. He was so proud of his baby brother and ready to show me what a big boy he is, how he gets to hold his baby, it was so sweet. I'm pretty sure baby brother felt the same way because, I'm not making this up, this was what happened the second I set him down in his brother's arm. This is the first shot I took of the session, actually. Brotherly love indeed.
We kept a hat off of him for a lot of the poses because his mama loves his potentially-ginger adorable hair. I can't disagree with her on how cute it is! Also, I love how perfectly he fits into this little bed, just snuggled right down in there. You might notice that there's a lot of green in this photo - his mom chose the color, but I made it so that everything was green. I love the look to be consistent across a whole set, meaning if the wrap is green, then the layers and the stuffing is green too! I just think that keeps things so pleasing to look at. How about you? Or do you not even notice it once you see that adorable little face? I know it's hard to focus on anything else because these babies are just so cute!
Even though I've been at this newborn photography thing for a long time, I still learn something new every session I have. I also LOVE to try out new poses, new ideas, put a layer of a different size, shape, color, etc. It's so much fun for me as an artist (I don't know, I always feel sort of weird referring to myself that way...) to do something differently and fall in love with it - then I have two options! Or more. This is a new pose I'm trying to perfect. Callum was one of the first ones I tried it out on. I do love how snuggled he looks here, don't you?
I love this one. Simple, white, clean, perfect. Allows the focus to be squarely where it needs to be: this gorgeous baby.
I love all of the wrapped poses that we got - but baby's dad loves the naked ones. Again, I am with him on this one, because nothing showcases how itty bitty your baby is and how sweet the little baby toes, fingers, etc. are like those posed, naked shots. Callum was all posed out by the time we got to these but his parents were kind enough to oblige a return trip.
This simple, sweet "head on hands" or head on wrists pose is always, always one of my favorites. Baby boy rocked this one! I might have to figure out a way to make this a studio sample. It's just perfect.
I could keep sharing. I loved this session. He's just perfect. Here's one last one. Now. Normally, if you know me, you know that I do NOT leave a finger tensed up. I am borderline insane about flat fingers. This boy and I could not come to an understanding about not scrunching up his fingers in this pose. I tried, man alive did I try. We had to settle on this compromise. I'm pretty pleased with it. Even with scrunchy fingers.
Thank you so much McH fam. You guys are awesome.
I'm a Delaware County Newborn Photographer and I absolutely love what I do. Yesterday, I made my second delivery to this family of their wall art, so naturally, this darling little baby, her photos, and her absolutely beyond-lovely mama are all on my mind, which made me want to share their gorgeous images with you!
I was surprised to get her mama's email saying she had arrived, because her due date was not even on my book for that month, but for the next! But, I'm always happy for the opportunity to photograph a little baby and gladly added her to my schedule ASAP (that's just one of the perks of pre-booking, by the way! I guarantee that I'll have a spot for you, no matter when your baby arrives. If you wait to book until your little one is here, I can't guarantee that I can get you in in the first two weeks, still-curly-and-sleepy-baby time frame. Okay, back to your regularly scheduled cute baby stuff.)
Miss arrived and was absolute perfection. Teeny, pretty little baby girl. Just perfect. I had so much fun photographing her.
And, of course, one of my favorite parts of the session was chatting with her most darling mama. I know I say it enough that you might not even believe it to be genuine, but I have the best, best clients. Like, perfectly lovable. It was so much fun to spend the day working with this family!
But, I'll get to that in a minute. So, I had gotten the tip that they were looking for creams, pinks and gold. Um, yes please! Pink, cream and gold is perfection! Just like this little girl.
More pink, more darling baby girl. Love how a tweak to this pose makes it look so different, too!
Goodness. Look at her face, how her hands just frame her face so perfectly.
i'm unsure why my website is so happy about that that it's decided to yell, but here we are.
I feel you, website. I feel like yelling when I see how adorable this family is too!
Remember I said there was a dog? Here he is. Sweet guy. So well behaved. Hmmm, should I tell you now about how well behaved dogs are very much welcomed at my studio? Should I go into all of the how of doing these shots? Naaah, I think I"m gonna write a whole blog post about doggy sibling shots at a later date. Maybe I will give away my secret(s) of how it's done. In the meantime, here is a very handsome and well behaved dog with his baby sister.
ooooh. guys. This is my favooooooooorite from this session. The relaxed-ness of the pose, her perfect features, that amazing crown by Iris and Eve. It's just all perfect. See how I got the gold worked in here? (There are also gold flecks in the blanket. I love making something cohesive.)
I have well exceeded my normal number of shared photos here, and I could most certainly go on. But, there are many sessions to be edited for other families and I will bring you more gorgeousness another day! If you would like me to photograph your new little one when they arrive, you can click here to email me. Thanks!
When you are reading this blog, you are reading about my adventures as a Philly newborn photographer - and extrovert extraordinaire. This newborn photography session was so much fun for the extrovert in me - not just because I got to hang out with sweet baby girl's parents, who I knew I was going to love because of our phone consult and emails - but because when they arrived, they had not just her parents but his! It was lots of fun to meet them - I always LOVE getting generations photos, and love bantering with Grandpas, too.
Daddy had this group organized and moving like a well oiled machine, mostly since he needed to be at a meeting, but I'll take my help where I can get it!
Of course, I got my generations photo here, love this one of beautiful mommy, her beautiful mama, and her little baby girl.
And baby with her Daddy's mama, also.
Any color I used with this beautiful girl was just perfect for her - and I loved showing off all of her beautiful, dark hair.
I've been loving using fresh flowers in my newborn sessions lately - feels like spring and makes everything so pretty. Grandma wanted to use them with this setup - my wheels started turning to figure out how to make it perfect. Then I turned around to see her snapping the buds off and had as Oprah calls it a "lightbulb moment"! YES, PLEASE, gimme those flowers, Grandma, you genius! :)
Then we just got crazy and used them all. Love this!
The flowers were originally being used in this cute setup - Love this antique sewing basket. I actually loved it so much that I had to track it down in pink, too!
It's hard to stop showing you all of these perfect adorable poses with this sweet little angel. I could do this all day - that hair, those lips, she really is a perfect baby.
