This sweet boy. Four years ago, when I was just starting this journey, his big sister was one of my first "real" newborn clients. So, you can imagine how overjoyed I was for this family to hear that they had just added a new baby to the family. And how honored I was to be the one who was called on to photograph baby brothers first newborn portraits, too!
This guy, a chunky ten pounds of love, was a perfect angel for his session. And, I love the photos that were the result! I don't know what I love more: the squishy rolls, the baby pillow lips, or those cheeks! Just take a look.
Then his gorgeous big sister arrived home. I love capturing the proud older sibling with their new baby.
And, you know what else I love? Taking family photos after a newborn session where they are just hanging out, enjoying their new baby and each other, getting to know their new addition. I love how chill and unposed those shots are, how real. We sometimes refer to those as "lifestyle" photographs, but whatever you call them, I call them perfect.
Thank you guys for your trust in me! I so enjoyed photographing your new family of four.
This family was living on the other coast when they found me. They were moving here and we talked before they did so that she was all set once she had the babies. I love and am envious of highly organized people. She is one of them! However, no amount of planning could derail these young ladies when they decided they were making an appearance, even though mama was nowhere near her home base hospital. Mama and Daddy started off life with twins possibly not as they had planned but this couple is so awesome they just took it in stride and seem to have been doing so ever since. By the time I got there a mere week later, they were seriously old pros at the whole newborn twins thing. I (and my fabulous assistant Maria) were in awe of their simpatico and relaxed way! Their babies seem to have inherited their chill ways too. Such sweet little ladies.
On to the photos. Someone said when I posted these on Facebook (here, if you want to check these or any others out) that twins = best friends forever. So lucky these little ones are. Look how connected they are!
There is not much I love more than catching a little smile. Doesn't she look like she is ready to burst out into a little giggle? And, she is pointing her little toes like she is going out dancing, seriously. I love this. This one makes me a little giddy!
Both babies got some alone shots too, of course. One could eat while the other got her closeup. <3 Perfect.
And, I tried to restrain myself and not add this one. But, really. Would you have kept this to yourself? I don't know if the fact that she's giving me the finger or the fact that she's kinda smirking while she does it cracks me up more!
Thanks for a great session, C Family! Your girls are perfection!
Pretty much, because there is this.
I don't know about you, but babies smiling in their sleep is about the cutest thing ever to me.
Don't worry, I promise to blog this whole session someday, but I could not keep this from the world the instant I saw it.
Look at this beautiful baby! Her gorgeous hair, her sweet cheeks, and those LIPS! I love catching just a hint of a smile from a baby. What do you think babies dream about?
Baby S is not only beautiful, she holds the baby land speed record for newborn photography. I don't know if you guys know exactly the amount of time that goes into a newborn session. No, I'm not talking about the amount of hours spent learning, culling through sellers for the best props, learning posing, lighting, packing up, etc. Phew. I'm getting exhausted just thinking about that stuff, so I'll just spell it out for you: a newborn session can take a long time. As is the case with babies, no two are alike, and you can't predict how a baby will react. Some are super sleepy and don't mind how you pose them, don't mind being moved to change setups or backdrops, will tolerate a hat being put on them, that kind of thing. And some babies startle more easily, don't sleep as well, need to eat more frequently, don't prefer being posed; as a newborn photographer, I take it all in stride and arrive with no expectations other than my set list - I'm confident that I'll have both kinds of baby in equal number. But, Ms. S. She didn't mind any of the things I describe above. Fastest newborn session ever.
And, did I mention, she's beautiful?
She was surrounded by her grandparents, parents and her three dogs: Bear, the huge shepherd kind of intimidated me but ultimately won my heart, and Penny, the three legged pit bull who had my heart from the minute I met her - some of you might be surprised to learn I petted them both, but not the third dog, whose name escapes me because she didn't really like me much, and maybe it was all the chill, good vibes in the place but we had a great session and I was so happy to be able to create these images for this sweet little family.
I think this one is my favorite. <3
