I’m always impressed when parents have the restraint to be surprised by the sex of their baby in the delivery room. But this family was really surprised, to even be there in the first place! This little girl decided to make her entrance three weeks early! She just couldn’t wait to meet them! And with good reason, quite honestly. They are awesome – such a great, supportive team for each other already. Mama has this mommy thing down, even her own mom was impressed. Daddy, too. And, he is just in love with his little girl, too, there was no hiding that. It was easy to see all of the love in this house!
Anyway, thanks, J and J, your baby is darling. I know you know that, I only told you ten million times. And, thank you, baby H, for waiting until I was done! Can’t wait to show you the rest of these. And there are a lot!

Surprise! | Bucks County Newborn Photographer
June 20, 2010I was so happy to be going back to see this family on Saturday! Mr. X and his parents are some of my most favorite clients ever! I wind up chatting with both parents half of the time because they are so cool. Mom and Dad have made all of these really cool things for Baby X, from drool bibs to shoes! Meaning, they created their own patterns, sewed them (Dad is really the one who can take the credit for this part), everything. They’re just cool, interesting and fun. Not to mention, they impress neurotic little me with how laid back they are! (They let me put temporary tattoos on their six month old baby. Let me? They were happy to, because they had their own!) I was also happy once I got there, because this boy who I photographed as a newborn has become the sweetest, smiliest, most darling boy ever. They say he was putting on a show for me, that he’s not always that sweet, but I don’t believe them. Anyway, K family, it was so great to hang out with you and chat. Hope you love these as much as I do! Many more to come, but I was excited to get a few quick ones up to show you.
Tattoo Convention, After | Philadelphia Tattoo Photographer
March 28, 2010I spent the weekend at the Tattoo Convention at the Sheraton Center City. It was pretty incredible! I thank all of you who had kind words to say about my work. It was a pleasure meeting everyone!
I also had the pleasure of meeting some of the other amazing vendors at the convention. Two of the local ones were near and dear to my heart. One was Pinups for Pitbulls, a non profit organization dedicated to restoring the image of the bully breeds. http://www.pinupsforpitbulls.com/ Their slogan is “Punish the deed, not the breed”. Here is a pinup in action, signing their 2010 calendar. These girls were so sweet!
But it was really these guys and their project who stole my heart https://gritcityinc.com/ with their book “Tatted”. The producers of the book, Brian and Dan, are awesome guys! I enjoyed talking with both of them about this amazing project they’ve been a part of and the incredible product that is its end result, the book, “Tatted”. Philly photographer Marianne Bernstein did a project on South Street for a year, asking people who were tattooed if she could take their picture, and had them write a note about the tattoo she shot. They printed the book with some of the notes, and it’s just interesting, captivating, brilliant. I could go on… Do what you can to get your hands on a copy of this book to buy – I got mine at the convention and haven’t put it down! It’s incredible.

Great weekend, all in all. I’m exhausted, but I met some amazing people and had a great time!

March 24, 2010Appreciation | Philadelphia Tattooed Parent Photographer
March 23, 2010“Appreciation” was the subject line of an email I received this morning from an unfamiliar email address. Intrigued, I clicked on the email from “Jennifer”, as the name said.
The body of the email read,
“I was looking for Images of people with tattoos. For a project I am doing in school on discrimination on those with body art. I came across your photos and I was brought to tears. Never have I seen us with tattoos and different forms of body mod, shown is such a gentle way. I truly appreciate and enjoy your depictions of those with tattoos as gentle and loving parents which we all are.. Thank you.”
I had to share this. I hope that the people who hire me to photograph them and their children and their art do feel that this is true of how I approach and see them. Being stereotyped, misunderstood, assumed about, and otherwise thought about negatively by people who don’t even know you just plain sucks. I’ve always been someone who aims to prove people wrong (some might call that rebellious, wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been called that!), and I hope that in doing that, if I can’t make them realize they’re wrong, maybe someone else will.
Thank you to all of my tattooed parents and parents to be.
What could be more perfect than this?
The Book Of Cuteness | Philadelphia Family Photographer
March 21, 2010This cutie may not have seen the movie, The Book Of Eli, but this Eli could definitely be in The Book Of Cute! Just look at him and his baby rolls!
Did I lie?
And, you know that if there’s a tattoo on a parent, I’ll find it and use it. Plus, I swallow tattoos are some of my favorites! I think his beautiful mom looks like a 50s pinup girl here. I love this shot!
I think this is my favorite one so far from this session. It really conveys how sweet this family was – really just pure love and sweetness.
This look on his face is how we knew when we were done. This guy was a trooper.
J and B, it was so nice meeting you all today! Thanks for entertaining me while Eli napped!
Nice To Meet You – Philadelphia Area Newborn and Tattoo Photographer
December 13, 2009Yesterday, I met this 13 day old cutie and her parents. Her dad had come home all the way from overseas just to meet her! He’s in the Army and came home to meet his newest sweet pea and spend some time with his wife and family. This little sweet pea must have wanted to spend every waking moment with Dad, because I sure couldn’t get her to sleep! No matter, though. With Mom’s gorgeous ink, we got some stunning photos anyway.

She did sleep a little bit, but she only wanted to snuggle her cute little face into the pillow. So, she wasn’t happy with me moving her so that I could see her cute little face.

Eventually, though, she gave me a million dollar smile. What a lucky capture!

And one of all three of them. Love.

It was so nice to meet you, E and T. Enjoy the rest of your time together!
Mr. X at 22 Days – Philadelphia Area Newborn and Tattoo Photographer
December 6, 2009I had the pleasure of spending the morning with young Mr. X and his lovely parents today. A mutual friend spotted his mama’s tattoos and passed my name along. As luck would have it, his daddy has some tattoos too!
This boy was so awake and giving me such intense eye contact, I didn’t want to put him down. He was such a sweetie!

He didn’t want to sleep, until he discovered the magic that is my space heater. Then, he was putty in my hands.

I think his parents my have to invest in a space heater of their own!
D and E, it was great to meet you and your little man today. You guys make excellent photography assistants. Hope you enjoy your sneak peek!
Check out the “Galleries” tab and click on “Hazel”.
And, because we all know that no post is complete without a photo, here’s a reason to go check out this sweet baby’s gallery: Baby piggies. Who can resist cute little baby piggies, especially when they are poking through like little pearls?

You didn’t really think I meant a 12 day old baby with tattoos, right? I meant that she was photographed with her parents’ tattoos!
Anyway, I had the pleasure of meeting sweet Hazel and her parents, Isaac and Kerri, on Saturday. She was very alert and was just checking everything out.

She did get a little nap in.

But then it was time for a few with Dad.

As you can see, she gets her dark hair from him.

But I think she was happiest when held by her mom and her dad together.

I enjoyed meeting you both, Isaac and Kerri, and of course, your baby girl. I hope you enjoyed your sneak peek – I can’t wait for you to see the rest!
I’m back. I had two more that I loved so much that I had to add them.

Okay. I promise to save the rest for when I’m done and you can see the whole gallery. I couldn’t wait to show you these, though.
