Oh, blog reader. You are really going to love me. Well, if you love knowing about who the most amazing tattoo artists are in the Philadelphia area are, and getting an in-depth look at them, their art, and hearing it straight from the artist’s mouth, that is. Interested yet? Keep reading.

I’ve been bubbling over with excitement about a new feature that I am going to have here. I’ll be interviewing some of the most talented artists in Philly, showing you photos of them doing what they do best (tattooing, silly! what else would I be talking about?!), and showing off some of their work, too. I cannot wait to interview my first artist on Thursday night. I don’t want to spoil the fun and tell you who he is, yet, but his work is amazing. One of my first clients had some artwork from this guy. I loved it so much that I convinced my husband to use him for his first tattoo. (It didn’t actually take much convincing once we looked through his work.)

I’ll be in the Olde City on Thursday. (hint, hint)

Check back here for the goods in a few days!

Just one for now of the darling second son of the B Family. I have been on vacation until today and the B Family has been incredibly patient waiting for their sneak peek. I wanted to edit at least one for you guys to see when I got home tonight! More to come, soon. And, you, dear readers, will hear the story of how I met the B Family and of the very cool, earth friendly and good smelling product made by the company owned by Mama B. Full story at 11. Oh wait, it’s after 11. Let me just show you the cute baby instead.

I’m biased, I admit it.  But I still think I was lucky to have an entire morning with this sweet, pretty girl, walking all over Philly, changing outfits, finding great little spots, laughing, and having a little snack on a gorgeous nearly summery morning.  I’m biased because I’ve been best friends with her mom since we were fourteen, and remember visiting miss O in the hospital when she was born.  But, I still know a pretty girl when I see one.  So, thanks, Miss O, for entertaining my son, for your trick where you got yourself to not smile so much (we should all have such problems!), for wearing those awesome boots even though it was swelteringly hot, and for freaking out the angry guy behind you and your mom on the steps with your silly discussion.  And thanks to you, Awesome Friend, for packing up good outfits and letting your kid stand in an alley behind a restaurant in her good clothes.  Love you both!

I am so excited about this new product that I am going to start offering that I just had to show you!  It’s not like anything I’ve ever seen before.  This item is a thick, substantial piece of wood with a photo overlay in a very luxe gel type of material, with the photo printed inside of the gel.  I know, it didn’t make any sense to me when I heard about it either, so I had to order it and see.  It currently only comes in a 10″ x 20″ size, which was perfect for a storyboard I’d just made.

You can see, it comes ready to hang either direction.  No framing needed!

This one gives you an idea of just how glossy and pretty the surface is, but doesn’t really do it justice.

The sides are black.  You can see how thick the sides are.  It’s a gorgeous display piece, whether on a wall or on a stand.

They’re available right now for $170, for the 10″ x 20″ size.  It’s a steal at this price and may not last long!

“Appreciation” was the subject line of an email I received this morning from an unfamiliar email address.  Intrigued, I clicked on the email from “Jennifer”, as the name said.

The body of the email read,

“I was looking for Images of people with tattoos. For a project I am doing in school on discrimination on those with body art. I came across your photos and I was brought to tears. Never have I seen us with tattoos and different forms of body mod, shown is such a gentle way. I truly appreciate and enjoy your depictions of those with tattoos as gentle and loving parents which we all are.. Thank you.”

I had to share this.  I hope that the people who hire me to photograph them and their children and their art do feel that this is true of how I approach and see them.  Being stereotyped, misunderstood, assumed about, and otherwise thought about negatively by people who don’t even know you just plain sucks.  I’ve always been someone who aims to prove people wrong (some might call that rebellious, wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been called that!), and I hope that in doing that, if I can’t make them realize they’re wrong, maybe someone else will.

Thank you to all of my tattooed parents and parents to be.

What could be more perfect than this?

This morning, I got to spend some time with baby J and his parents.  Finally!  Our original shoot date had to be switched after we got an additional oh, 20 inches or so of snow!  So, I was glad to finally get to meet this smiley man and his parents.  He was a delight!  What a darling little boy you have, R and J.  It was his parents quick thinking that got me there earlier than we had originally planned, but just in time to capture all of the happiness that this darling little guy was beaming out!  There was definitely a lot of love going on at this place!  R and J, it was great meeting you and talking mohels.  I hope you enjoy the sneak peek.

How could you not love this smile?  So cute!

I’ve known M for as long as I can remember.  And for as long as I can remember, she has loved horses.  When I was a kid, she would drive me to the barn in her orange sports car to babysit for her adorable daughter while she got her riding fix.

Today, she runs a farm with horses, an emu, chickens, pigs, two dogs and a very cute chinchilla.  She is an amazing, gentle soul.  She is incredibly kind and incredibly strong, she is beautiful, and is someone I admire and enjoy talking to.

I had the pleasure of watching her with the animals and photographing her with them.  You can see how much she loves these animals, and how beautiful they are.  She says that they are like her babies, and you can tell that they know it!

Last weekend, I had the honor of participating in my friend Mindy’s holiday party.  She has vendors whose work she enjoys there, and she asked me to come with some of my work and a slideshow.  It was a great time!  She had an incredibly delicious lunch set out, an awesome bluegrass band in her barn, and lots of great friends and family around.  She also has a 12 acre horse farm which houses five or six horses, two pigs, a chicken named Lemon and a rooster, a mini horse, and, my son’s favorite, the emu.  I was admittedly a little scared of the horses, but the emu was a okay in my book.  She tried to peck my lens a few times, THANK GOODNESS she missed, but I got a great shot of her.

Close enough to kiss!

Thanks for a great day, Mindy!

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting this sweet boy and his mama, to try to get some of the last bit of pretty fall color and some photos for the upcoming holidays. Mr. Nate was quite seriously observing everything in the park: planes, his choo choo, and the squirrels, and telling me about all of them. He must have been pretty wary of me, because it was hard to get him to crack a smile at first. Until I threw up some leaves and yelled about how yucky they were (thanks for the tip, Mama). Belly laughs galore. After that, he was all smiles! Although it was hard not to be with such a fun, sweet mama. I could absolutely feel the love between them; you can see how much fun they have together.

Today, I had the pleasure of photographing this little sweetie, along with her laid back and very funny parents.

She was a perfect little angel, and didn’t seem to mind being photographed at all, as long as she got plenty of breaks to eat in between takes. And, most importantly, had the heater pointing directly at her at all times.
