I was watching The Lion King this morning, and this scene, when Rafiki takes the baby and the beams of light are shining down on him, I was like, "OMG! I know that feeling! It's totally how I feel when the parents hand their baby over to me."
Then I went and made this. :)

I've known this sweet baby's family forever. His family are the closest friends of my dear aunt and uncle. I've known his dad since he was a silly kid, playing with my cousins.
As I've gotten older, I've gotten to know this family better. I can say without a doubt that they are some of the kindest, most selfless and thoughtful people I have ever had the pleasure to know. One thing that sticks out in my mind as I think about this baby's grandparents and young uncle is when my grandmother died. They were at my aunt's house with food for all of our guests, heating and serving and keeping trays full. They didn't leave until every dish was cleaned and every scrap of food given away or wrapped up. His uncle may have been 20 at the time. AND. This boy's mama was watching my son so that I could attend the funeral. Selfless, happy to do it for me. The love with which they cared for us, our family, and our guests was palpable and genuine. I've never forgotten that moment and I don't think I ever will.
Also, this baby's grandparents have been so thoughtful and kind and supportive of me and my business since the minute I opened up shop. Nice notes on photos, messages of support, just little things that mean so much to someone yet not many people take the time to do.
So, you can imagine how thrilled I was when I heard that his parents were expecting! And even more thrilled when I found out that they wanted me to do the photos! This sweet darling boy was a little smuggler. And I loved it! :)
Don't you love his little foot peeking out?! I sure do!
I like this one because he looks like his grandfather to me here.
Thanks, fabulous S Family. <3 So wonderful to get to snuggle this guy! To book your own session with Jamie Siever Photography, click here.
Somehow, even though my son attends school with this little dude, somehow I had never met him. I would have remembered his gorgeous brown eyes, and his adorable little laugh. I'm sure he would have engaged me with his cute-as-a-button repartee and knowledge. Because, he did all of those things and more (think: sweet showings off of talents) at the session we did with this darling little family expecting their fourth any day now. This guy charmed me from the start, itchy bugs and early morning notwithstanding. He was like a little man who'd had his coffee already. Love it.
Isn't he so so so cute?
So, when his mama walked up in THAT GORGEOUS PURPLE DRESS, I was like, "Yes". I love when someone comes in a fabulous dress for photos. I was the worst dressed pregnant woman EVER. I never looked sassy and only wore like, gross fuzzy yoga pants. So, a form fitting, jewel toned dress? I am loving you, lady. Cause you've got the sass! (and wishing I looked that good not pregnant...)
Such a sweet family. They were having the best time - making each other giggle and generally just hanging out. And, I don't know which I like more, the silly look I captured on Brother's face or the gorgeous light behind them.
Mama and I were both loving this funky little pile of sticks we found. It's a cute little pile and it worked so well at this fabulous location. The light here was just making me happy all day! And, doesn't she look like a movie star?
So, now, the next time I see Brother at school, I hope to get one of those winning smiles and maybe an anecdote or a command performance.
Thanks, Spectacularly Cute Family. Can't wait until your little one arrives!

As I was taking this shot, this amazing purple feather on the headband was gently swaying in the warm wind from my heater and I kind of felt like I was shooting a supermodel. Because I'm silly like that! Although, this little lady was as beautiful to photograph as any model I've ever seen. Such a dainty, darling little lady. I seriously can't get enough of this photo - I've gotta incorporate it into my studio sample pieces, I think.
This is the dangerous part about being a newborn photographer: buying all of the cute things! When I saw this little headband, I had to have it! (Then, it came, and I had weeks and weeks of only boys. Who I already had very cute props for, by the way, but I was itchy to use this.) Thank goodness I was able to. And, just WAIT until you see the cute boy thing I just bought. Ridiculous.
Are you kidding me?! So, if you've read any of my blog entries here previously, you know I'll walk a mile to catch a smile. Wait. I'll, uh, hang out for a long time to catch a smile? Doesn't exactly have the same ring, but boy I love to get a smile. But with an awake baby?! Um, yes please! Just look at her. I love this photo! Award winning smile-capture, if I do say so myself.
And, I am pretty sure that there is nothing cuter than the combination of this baby's perfect face and this teeny little crown. It made me want to do a little squeal, and, again, if you read this blog, like, ever, you know I am not a squee kind of a lady. (Lies. I so am, but I keep it all in.)
This little girl and her family were really just a dream to work with.

I fell in love with this little guy as soon as I walked through the door. I mean, if you can take a look at eyelashes like these and not fall madly in love, my hat is off to you, dear reader. Because those eyelashes are the stuff that dreams are made of! Plus, he was such a sweet little snuggler. Also, that hair. Pretty much, everything about this guy is perfection. Do I say that a lot? I feel like I do - but I also don't say it if it's not 100% true.
And, keeping with the trend of me having the most fabulous clients ever, this family did not disappoint! First of all, look at this fabulosity in this nursery, people. That alone is worth gold. Gorgeousness! But, also, look at the beautiful smiles on his parents. I love a doting dad so much. And a down to earth, beautiful, loving mama. So, we're two for two with these parents!
Plus, in what might have been my favorite thing ever, they sent me a ton of photos that they'd taken of me working with their baby during his session. It's shameful for a photographer, but I have very few photos of myself working with babies or shooting a session, so I was so happy to have those!
Even a little tattoo snuck in there, see that?
Mama kept me entertained for hours - we were just chatting away. I love it so much when I get to make a new friend out of a client. We talked families, cats, and about her catering business. Her logo is pretty much the best thing I've ever seen in my life - it's half of the tattoo I'd get if I wasn't so sucky and chickeny.
So, A and S - thank you so much for trusting this time to my camera and to me. It was such a pleasure to photograph your new boy and your family. Sorry about that pole that's still at your house - I promise to come get it very soon!

So, dogs. I don't know how many of you readers follow me on Facebook, but I've confessed that a horribly geeky trait of mine is that I am a dog savant. Pretty much, I recognize every breed of dog and can often figure out mutty combinations, too. The reason for this is that as a child, I was obsessed with dogs. As luck would have it, I was born to an avowed hater of animals, but dogs in particular. Isn't life cruel? My mother would tell me, "When you're a big lady, you can get your own house and get yourself a dog". And instead of a dog, do you know what she gave me? Dog books. Lots and lots of dog books. I did get myself a dog when I was a "big lady" and haven't been without at least one at all times since, but that's another story for another day. The reason I tell you this is to say that I am pretty much a dog lover. Yet, when I went to Nikki and Chris' house, I was a little intimidated by their sweet boy. And, uh. You would have been too. Sweet Lincoln probably weighs more than my big, muscular husband. Maybe my husband and I combined. Okay, maybe not, but that is one big dog. So, when I walked in and he sort of came up to my shoulder, I was a little intimidated. But he is a big baby. He won't let Nicole out of his sight. He cried outside the door while I was photographing her! But still, I wouldn't dream of messing with her with that big boy around, sweetheart or not.
And look. <3 She loves him as much as he loves her.
And then there's Chris. Nikki and Chris are so, so crazy about and perfect for each other. You can see the love in their eyes when they talk. So incredibly sweet. I cannot wait to meet their little boy in a few short weeks! Love. <3
