So excited to share this fun Philly maternity session with you. We decided to do this one in two parts - one that we spent in their neighborhood, because Philly is awesome and there are so many gorgeous backdrops there, and then one with a more "country" vibe but still very modern and sophisticated too. This city has so many beautiful spots everywhere.
Mama had some really cool ideas and when we talked, we really got each other's vibe so I was so excited to help bring this vision to life. Plus, it was so much fun to incorporate Rufus, their first baby, into their maternity shoot. I can completely relate to the "my dog is my baby" and has to be included way of thinking (I included a puppy the day I got him in my verywellplanned family session for my own family, only to sort of change things up by bringing a six week old puppy but I digress. Cutest photos E V E R btw) so we really had a good time showing off how pretty he is. Plus, he's a really well behaved dog and the family is great with him so that made my job a lot easier.
Ok, so I've got to show you how pretty these photos are, you guys.
He's a complete supermodel, right? And. Isn't she?! Just wait!
Love. A favorite of mine from this part of the session.
Then we moved on to the less urban part of the session. Can I just say that this lady was born to be photographed? Such a stunning lady!
And, we obviously had a gorgeous, sunny, perfect day. But look at this painting backdrop. It's real, I promise. we were outside. It just looks fake because it's so perfect.
Mr. Rufus, ever the gentleman. :)
Right? I KNOW.
Breathtaking - location, model, lens, everything. Just perfection. How many times have I already said that in this post? Is there a limit? Don't smash my keyboard, I'm just excited.
Love. Love love love. :) So happy to welcome their little one.
Can't wait to share the photos of their little one with you. Because she is also perfection! Are you expecting? Click here to email me if you'd like to schedule a maternity or newborn photography session.
I was just looking over my most recent Newborn photographer Philadelphia area blog posts. I realized that, although I blogged his parents' gorgeous maternity session here, I never actually shared his newborn photos! And, I'm sorry for that, to you, if you read my blog a lot, because omg. He is so darn cute and was so smiley. Plus, as sometimes/often happens, I fell even more in love with his peeps than I had been.
This is usually my first setup in the door when you come in for your session. Baby is typically happy to be snuggled up and wrapped up and cozy. But who knew that being snuggled up this way would elicit this!? This image wound up to be one of my favorites of 2016. I think of it among the images I am so proud to have taken this year. Mid-yawn, sweet fingers, all that hair, beautiful blue, all wrapped up, hoped for, wished for, darling boy. Love this so. We giggled and clapped when we found that I had captured it during the session.
The theme of this session was definitely "Smiles for Miles" with this little boy! (His name isn't miles - I just mean that he was smiling for days! Literally in every setup.) See?
More smiles, more adorable setups. Don't you love that hair he has?
Love him in this cute little fox setup!
And, here, more serious. That blue makes his beautiful hair pop!
Ah, another smile. <3 Joyful boy who is content in how loved he is.
Smiling again. This boy.
Now you see where it all comes from. Look at these gorgeous smiles. Look at the love you can feel absolutely radiating off of the screen. I love this photo too. I think it is one of my favorite parent/family shots from a newborn session I've taken this year.
I included this next shot because, even though it is similar (processed a little differently, too), you can see the radiating joy from both of Mr. Shiv's parents' faces. Just pure happiness, joy. This was them. The epitome of them - smiling, so happy to be together, so much love. I enjoyed working with them so much. What a beautiful family!
Thanks, sweet family, for choosing me to capture your before and after, your love of your family and of each other, your exciting start down the new path of parenthood. If you would like your new journey captured, click here to send me an email and start the conversation.
Newborn Photographer Main Line
I love when I have a maternity session, and then the new parents return with their newborn for newborn photography. I love seeing who people become as parents and how quickly that transformation happens. Isn't that wild, when you really think about it? Like, I met you a month ago and now you're Mom and Dad and parents of a person? It's crazy how the whole thing happens.
I'm sure everyone does this, but when we left the hospital after I had a baby, we were like, "They're just gonna let us leave with this kid? Just like, take this kid home? Us???" And, yet, you do. And you keep the person alive and don't drop it (errrrrm....) and it's fine.
Wait, where was I going with this?
Anyway, it was so cool when the mom and dad from the post below came in with their new little lady! It was of course great to see them again and see their transformation into parents. BUT. I was so happy when I saw this pretty little lady and her cheekies and long fingers. Pretty girl.
She was absolutely perfect in this little headband. I love her darling cheeks, fingers, nose. Oh, gosh. She's perfect, right?
LOVE this little pixie hat - I was just so swoony over all of these! Love the shape of the wrap, love how that hat comes up all gnome-y in the back, love her cheeks and beautiful little face.
It's always fun for me to get so many different angles from one pose.
Cheeks. I love this pose because I love how her face is the focus of this and her body is out of focus. And I love how her hands frame her face so well.
When your mama loves her a book... She seemed pretty relaxed about it. Future Rhodes scholar, perhaps?
The "triple lindy". Her dad rocked being my assistant for this pose! So much easier when I can actually explain it properly. I wonder if you know - this is a composite. We don't actually leave the baby like this. And, not every baby will do this pose. But she did, and she rocked it!
I haven't even shared the parent photos yet, which I totally L O V E, and I'm already over my 5 per session limit! (You saw how I snuck some extras into that one collage? Pretty sneaky, sis.)
Anyway, I should also tell you in the interest of full disclosure, that since I adored this session and the maternity session too so well, I ordered a giant display of new products I'm offering in studio of them. Want me to post it once it arrives? Let me know! Also, are you pregnant? Hoping to become pregnant? Click here to send me a message so we can get your newborn session on the books!
I am a newborn photographer, but sometimes what precedes that is being maternity photographer. I think that Philadelphia maternity photography is one of the most beautiful things I do! I love the diversity of looks that Philadelphia has to offer; she's like a little black dress. You can dress her up or dress her down. :P Okay, I'm just getting weird here.
So, here we are, in a gorgeous location, and at my favorite time of the day to take photographs outside: the Golden Hour. It's really like, the Golden 1.5 or more Hour/s for me, because I do like to take advantage of that strong, not yet setting sunlight, too. This was a magnificent day, both as weather and sunlight goes. I know many photographers who prefer an overcast day but not me! I love that strong sun, especially for backlighting, and for filtering through the leaves. This day was just perfect.
I have a lot of favorites to share from this session, because look at how that gorgeous sun is lighting up those gorgeous leaves!
That navy dress goes perfectly with those gorgeous yellows and oranges and reds, too!
A few feet away, a totally different look, same gorgeous people. :) Love that illuminated yellow off to the side, bringing in a gorgeous pop of color.
That bokeh though. :) Love their smiles here. Natural and gorgeous.
These shots are just a few feet apart, but look so different. I love them both!
Some of that gorgeous sun snuck in. See how it's illuminating the grass behind them? The sun does the prettiest things!
This is hands down my favorite photo spot in the city. A field plus the skyline. It just blows my mind every time! PS - Have I mentioned that sun yet???
I think I'm going to stop here. There are actually more - and believe it or not, this session took about 40 minutes. Mini maternity sessions are awesome. I am so excited to share these sweet photos of a newborn boy that I had the privilege of photographing recently. It's so much fun for me to design the set lists that I'm going to follow before the baby arrives - envisioning what he'll look like, how adorable he'll be in my setups, and then executing and seeing that he's always even more adorable than I counted on. This guy was definitely no exception.
I always give a little squeal when the baby comes in with a hat on and I take it off to reveal a head of hair that is full and dark. Even if he had no hair, though, those lips! Look at those lips, you guys. Also, cheekies. Oh, those cheeks. I loved this green setup with his dark hair and pinky pink lips. Just pure perfection.
Similar, yet different. Loving this setup where he
Also a sweet white setup, I love this one because it shows off his pretty features so much.
I love how this shows off his eyelashes! They were so long - I could have photographed him all day! He, like most babies do, preferred being wrapped. I love wrapping babies - there are so many great options in terms of making the photos look different and keeping the babies happy! That's a win win, to me.
If you have a newborn boy on the way - maybe these will give you some inspiration? Or, what do you prefer your newborn boys to be setup like in their photos? Do you prefer hats or au naturel? I'd love to photograph your new little one when they make their way on the scene!
