How It Works

May 19, 2009

So, we are going to Tell Your Story.  Maybe you are getting ready to start a family.  Or maybe your story is that you’ve just become a parent.  Maybe your little one has just gotten a tooth, or a few.  Or become a big brother.  Or she’s sat up for the first time, or maybe taken her first steps.  Whatever your  Story is at the moment, we’re going to make sure that you have something beautiful to help you remember this time in your family’s Story.

The session goes like this:

I am mainly a natural light photographer. If we are working in your home, I will look around when I arrive to find the room that allows the most natural light, generally something with a large window or sliding glass doors.  If we’re working outdoors, we’ll need to schedule the session at a time when the light will be the most flattering, generally early morning or one to two hours before sunset.  We’ll talk to get a feel for how we can best Tell Your Story.

The session normally lasts between one and two hours. I always say that the kids tell us when we’re done.  Especially with children, we take breaks, eat snacks and have costume changes. I prefer the subjects to feel relaxed, and never say things like, “smile big”, but I might tell a silly joke, sing a song (badly) or make a fart sound.  Really.

It’s a good idea to have a few outfits – something cute, and something “fun” that reflects the personality of your child, too.  That means adorable outfits, of course, but also his  Spiderman costume, her favorite rain boots and umbrella, or maybe a pair of cowboy boots.  Once we’ve scheduled your session, we will discuss locations and clothing as a part of crafting the session to Tell Your Story.

After the session is finished, I will provide you with an online, password protected gallery of 20-30 images from your session.   It will be available to you for one week, to allow you to decide which images you want.  I will show you possibilities for how you can lay out your photos on your walls and help you choose sizes that will work with the spaces you want to use.

It takes approximately 2 – 3 more weeks until your images are in hand.
