You know how sometimes when you meet someone through someone else, you know why your mutual acquaintance is so crazy about them? So it was with this mama. We have a mutual friend, someone I’ve known and adored since she was young (she was my baby sister’s first babysitter) and then she grew into an adult who, in a word, rocks. So when she gave this mama a gift certificate for a session and gushed about how amazing she was, when I met her, I knew what the hype was about. She and her husband are darling, sweet wonderful parents to this little sweet peanut. I am often in awe of how graceful and calm the new mamas I encounter in this job are, as I was frantic, harried and neurotic. None of that here – she and her sweet husband were giggly, blissful and calm.

I knew I’d think this family was awesome before I even met them. Well, before we even emailed, really. The mama in this family works with my babysitter and family friend since I was a kid. When she told me that she was giving the family a session as a gift, she proceeded to tell me how hilarious the mama was; and she was right. Tired, post c-section, she still managed to make me laugh. And not just because her kid was peeing on me either, although we both had a laugh at that one. Mama and Daddy are just a sweet, kind couple. I also had the pleasure of meeting Poppy. I will admit to developing a teeeny crush on Poppy, who offered me cake, made me coffee, and kept me entertained with his stories while the rest of the family were attending to the baby. This baby did not want to sleep for me – I guess he found me too interesting, but he was the most alert 8 day old baby I’ve ever encountered! And, check out that eye contact he was giving me! M Family, I enjoyed spending the day with you on Friday. I can’t wait to show you the rest of the pictures!

I’m pretty sure this first one is my favorite.

Although this is definitely a close second.

A quote that I’ve heard about having a new baby that really resonates with me is this one by Elizabeth Stone, “Making the decision to have a child – it’s monumental. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking outside your body.” Now, I don’t know who Elizabeth Stone actually is, but she’s a wise woman. It is monumental. Nothing will ever change your life quite this way, and the part about your heart walking outside your body? Perfect analogy. And, every new parent I meet, no matter how bleary eyed with sleep deprivation, is still hit by just how true that phrase really is.

And, look at this baby? How could you not be? She is perfect in every way. She hardly made a peep, she slept like a champ, she is just generally suited for her name Angelina in that she is truly angelic. Having just done a maternity session with her parents, I knew they were cool, fun, down to earth people. I knew that her mama was together like nobody’s business – finishing up one degree, starting an advanced degree, she is driven and organized in a way I can only dream of being. Her daddy is funny and sweet, and as her mama says, really balances her out. They’re just a perfect pair. So, it should be no surprise to anyone who knows them that they have got this. Like old pros at being parents. I was grungy, not cute, in pain and generally unpleasant when my son was this tiny. Not these two – they work like a well oiled parental machine. A parental machine that creates really cute babies.

Isn’t She Lovely | Manayunk Baby Photographer

I am lucky. You see, yesterday, the sun was shining brightly, the air was crisp and cool. I went to my morning session to photograph Ms. K, on the occasion of her being 9 months old. When I arrived, I found a gorgeous baby, with darling, lovely, beautiful parents, who were also funny and kind. They also live in a beautiful home that was oh-so-unpacked despite their quite recent move. Oh, and then there was Dewey. Yes, they have the sweetest dog alive (don’t tell my dog I said that). See, people? Lucky.

Apparently, she wasn’t impressed with me, as she is normally quite smiley.

I did have sparkly things, and she really likes sparkly things, so this was good.

She eventually decided she wanted to show that pretty smile!

And, see? Dewey. (No worse for the wear after an ACL tear.)

Just one for now of the darling second son of the B Family. I have been on vacation until today and the B Family has been incredibly patient waiting for their sneak peek. I wanted to edit at least one for you guys to see when I got home tonight! More to come, soon.
