Newborns
September 3, 2009Is there anything that is truly perfect in this crazy world that we live in? I can think of a few things that come close, but nothing beats a brand new, sweet smelling, still squishy, sleeping, warm little baby. I’ve always said that the weight of a sleeping baby in my arms is possibly the best feeling ever. When my son was new, I just held him and watched him sleep.
The rub of it is, it goes by in the blink of an eye. You’re so tired and possibly frazzled, and trying to figure this parent gig out. This is why I do my newborn sessions in the first two weeks of your baby’s life. Because by one month, they are already so different than when you first brought them home, and are stretching out so much more than they were in the womb. If you are pregnant, now is the time to contact me to make sure that we make plans to catch your baby in that window where they will sleep through a newborn session and give you the images that will bring tears to your eyes today and in ten years, too.
As you’ve likely got enough going on in your life, I generally come to you. I bring my blankets of all different colors and textures, and all my hats and other props. I generally get to them all, too, since babies seem to like peeing and pooping on my stuff. And, really, I expect that. The session generally takes anywhere from 3 to 4 hours, but a lot of that time is rocking, shushing, feeding, changing the baby and just generally waiting. I’m a mom; I’m used to it. It’s important for the house to be warm. Even though I bring my own heater with me, it’s also a good idea for you to turn the heat up to “sweltering” for about an hour before I arrive.
I love shots with the parents in them, too, so think about you and your partner getting into a few shots with the baby. A plain shirt on dad and a plain tank or shirt on mom is perfect. I also love skin on skin shots, too, so if you feel like it, let me know that too! It’s all about your comfort level, but definitely consider being in the photos!
